Palantir forward deployed engineer salary: posted ranges by track

Palantir's US postings for forward deployed software engineers (FDSEs) list a salary range of $135,000 to $200,000 a year, and its Deployment Strategist postings list $110,000 to $170,000, as we read them on October 23, 2026 ^1,2,5[1]Palantir Technologies, Forward Deployed Software Engineer, New York (Palantir job posting).[2]Palantir Technologies, Forward Deployed Software Engineer, Chicago (Palantir job posting).[5]Palantir Technologies, Deployment Strategist, New York (Palantir job posting).. Those ranges leave out any sign-on bonus, benefits and long-term incentives, and the postings say total compensation may also include restricted stock units (RSUs) ¹. The postings do not say how much equity or sign-on pay an offer adds.

@@What salary does Palantir list for each forward deployed track?

The table covers the Palantir postings we loaded on October 23, 2026. Each posting is one role in one place, and Palantir calls the figure an estimate. The postings show no date for their pay ranges, so treat the table as a snapshot and check the live page before you rely on it. Deployment Strategist is a separate Palantir role, not a forward deployed title: its posting describes working with Forward Deployed Engineers, and we include it as the neighboring role ⁵. "Not shown" means the page displayed no pay figure.

Three patterns stand out. The forward deployed software engineer band is identical on every US posting we read for that title, in New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. ^1,2,3[3]Palantir Technologies, Forward Deployed Software Engineer - US Government, Washington, D.C. (Palantir job posting).. The US Government posting asks for an active Top Secret clearance or willingness to obtain or upgrade to one, while the New York and Chicago commercial postings do not mention a clearance, yet the listed range is the same ^3,1,2. And the band is wide: $65,000 separates the bottom from the top, and the postings say only that final pay depends on qualifications, work experience, skills and other factors ¹.

The table is not every opening. Palantir's job board also lists forward deployed roles in places we did not load, including Honolulu, San Diego, Sydney and Seoul ²⁹[29]Palantir Technologies, Palantir Technologies job board., and their ranges may differ. The London, Munich and NATO postings showed no range at all.

@@Is the posted range base salary or total compensation?

It is a salary figure, though the postings we read call it a salary range, not "base salary." They then list what sits outside it: the estimate excludes the value of any sign-on bonus, the value of benefits and the future value of long-term incentives, and total compensation may also include RSUs, a sign-on bonus and other incentives ¹. Read the range as the salary line before equity and bonuses.

The postings give no RSU grant size, vesting schedule or sign-on amount, so you cannot add up total compensation from a posting alone. Equity is still a real part of how Palantir pays: its annual report for 2025 shows $684.0 million of stock-based compensation expense for the year. @@What do self-reported total compensation figures show?

Levels.fyi's page for Palantir forward deployed engineers, updated October 21, 2026, reports 227 submissions from the United States, a median yearly total compensation of $232,500 and a reported range of $201,000 to $590,000 ⁸[8]Levels.fyi, Palantir Forward Deployed Engineer Salary, 2026-10-21.. The page describes its highest package as including base salary plus any stock compensation and bonuses. It gives no split between salary, stock and bonus for this role, no breakdown by level, track or city, and no explanation of how submissions are checked ⁸.

Do not subtract the posted salary from that median to estimate equity. One number is Palantir's estimate for open roles; the other is a pool of user reports that does not say which levels, years or share prices it reflects. What can be said is that the lowest reported package, $201,000, sits just above the $200,000 top of the posted salary band ^8,1. That compares two different kinds of figure and is not evidence about any one package. We have not blended the two into one figure, and you should not either.

@@What do Palantir's H-1B filings show?

Before filing an H-1B petition, an employer files a Labor Condition Application (LCA) with the Department of Labor, which publishes the filings as disclosure data by fiscal year ^31,6[31]U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Foreign Labor Certification, Performance Data.[6]H1BData.info (indexes U.S. Department of Labor LCA disclosure data), Forward Deployed @ Palantir Technologies Inc's H1B Salary 2025.. On the LCA the employer attests that it will pay at least the higher of the actual wage it pays similar workers or the prevailing wage ⁷[7]U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, H-1B Program.. That ties a filing to a pay commitment for that H-1B hire at the time of filing.

H1BData.info, a site that indexes the disclosure files, returned 26 records for forward deployed titles at Palantir Technologies Inc. under its 2025 filter, all submitted in 2025: 25 titled Forward Deployed Engineer and one Forward Deployed AI Engineer, with 24 of the 26 in New York ⁶. By our arithmetic on the listed wages, the lowest is $135,000, the median $154,000 and the highest $238,000 (a Denver filing). Five sit at exactly $135,000 and six at exactly $145,000, and 25 of the 26 fall between $135,000 and $200,000 ⁶. The site's 2026 page lists 180 forward deployed records dated 2019 to 2026; of the 43 submitted in 2026, the latest on May 27, 2026, 7 list exactly $135,000 and 16 list exactly $145,000 ³²[32]H1BData.info (indexes U.S. Department of Labor LCA disclosure data), Forward Deployed @ Palantir Technologies Inc's H1B Salary 2026..

That cluster matches the bottom of the FDSE band and the new grad band ^1,4, which is consistent with many entry-level hires but does not prove it. Several limits apply. A filing covers only workers who need H-1B sponsorship. It states a wage commitment, not an accepted offer or a hire. The site does not define its "base salary" column or say whether it holds anything beyond salary, and the Department of Labor data does not show what the employer meant to use the filing for ⁶. And the data cannot tell you level or track.

@@How does Palantir's range compare with national software pay?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics put the median annual wage for software developers at $135,980 in May 2025 ⁹[9]U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Software Developers, Quality Assurance Analysts, and Testers: Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2026-08-27.. That figure covers software developers across the economy, all locations and experience levels, not forward deployed work or Palantir. Even so, the $135,000 bottom of the FDSE band sits close to it, and the $200,000 top is about 47 percent higher. Metro-level wages differ from the national median, so use local data before you treat this as a verdict on any one offer.

@@Does Palantir list less for a Deployment Strategist than for a forward deployed engineer?

On the listed ranges, the Deployment Strategist band sits lower, though the two overlap between $135,000 and $170,000. These are posted ranges, not what either role is paid. The Deployment Strategist band is $110,000 to $170,000, with a midpoint of $140,000, against $135,000 to $200,000 and a midpoint of $167,500 for the FDSE ^5,1. The midpoints are simple arithmetic on two ranges, not average pay. The bottom of the Deployment Strategist band is $25,000 lower and the top $30,000 lower. The roles also differ in what they ask: the New York Deployment Strategist posting requires 25 to 75 percent travel, while the New York FDSE posting asks for up to 25 percent ^5,1. We did not compare hours.

@@What can you negotiate on a Palantir offer?

We found no Palantir statement about how flexible its offers are, so this is a checklist built from what the postings leave open, not a claim about what Palantir will agree to.

• Where you land in the band. Ask which part of the band the offer sits in and what places it there. The postings tie pay to qualifications, work experience, skills and other factors ¹. In the 2025 filings, 11 of 26 wages sat at exactly $135,000 or $145,000, near the bottom of the band ⁶, so check whether your experience supports more.
• The parts the range excludes. Sign-on bonus, benefits and long-term incentives sit outside the estimate ¹. Ask whether a sign-on bonus is offered and on what terms.
• RSUs, in units and dollars. Ask for the number of units, the vesting schedule and the share price Palantir assumes when it states a dollar value. What you realize depends on the share price when units vest, so compare grants as units, not only as a headline value.
• The exact title and track. Bands differ by role: FDSE, Deployment Strategist and the reliability and enablement roles list different ranges, as the table shows.
• Sponsorship and clearance. If you need H-1B sponsorship, the employer must attest on the LCA that it will pay at least the higher of the actual wage for similar workers and the prevailing wage ⁷. For US Government tracks, which ask for an active clearance or willingness to obtain or upgrade one ³, ask who handles the clearance steps and how long they usually take.
• Everything in writing. Get the salary, sign-on, RSU grant and start date in the offer letter before you decide.

@@How should employers benchmark against Palantir?

Treat the posted band as Palantir's stated estimate for a role, not proof of what it pays, and remember it leaves out equity, sign-on pay and benefits ¹. Compare your own offer on the same basis: salary first, then equity and bonuses as separate lines. Posted ranges are required in some places; New York's pay transparency law (Labor Law Section 194-b), for example, requires businesses with four or more employees to list compensation ranges for designated job opportunities, promotions and transfers ³³[33]New York State Department of Labor, Pay Transparency.. Palantir does not say why its postings carry them.
