This policy explains what Forward Deployed Salary ("we", "us") collects when you visit forwarddeployedsalary.com (the "Site") and what happens to it.
What we collect
- Request data. Like any website, the Site is delivered and secured by a hosting provider that processes standard request data: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the referring address.
- First-party analytics. Each page runs a short script we wrote, which reports only to our own server: which pages you view, the page address (with campaign tags such as utm_source), the page you came from, your screen and window size, how far you scroll, how long the page is in view, whether a recommendation comes into view, and which links and buttons you click (their text, address and position on the page). It loads nothing from other companies, sets no cookies of its own and stores nothing in your browser.
- Approximate location. Our hosting provider tells our server the country, region and city your connection appears to come from. We record that approximate location, not your IP address.
- Browser and device type. Our server works out the browser and its version, the operating system and whether you use a desktop, mobile or tablet from the user agent your browser sends, and records only those, not the user agent.
How we recognize a device
For each event our server also derives a device key by running your IP address and user agent through a keyed one-way function and keeping 32 characters of the result. A browser on the same connection produces the same device key, which lets us link visits that likely come from one device, here and on other websites that share our analytics. It cannot be reversed into your IP address or user agent, and we neither store those nor send them to our analytics provider. Offices and mobile networks put many people behind one connection, so the device key is only an approximate signal.
Our cookie
We use one first-party cookie, set by our own server on forwarddeployedsalary.com. It contains a random visitor ID, how many visits you have made, when you last visited and a check code proving our server set it. That lets us count visits and tell new visitors from returning ones. Page scripts cannot read it, it goes only to this Site over secure connections, and it expires 400 days after your last visit. You can remove it in your browser settings whenever you like.
Contact form messages
A message sent through the form on our contact page reaches us with your email address, your message, an optional name and an approximate country that our hosting provider works out from your connection. We keep no IP address and no user agent with it.
We read your message and, where it needs an answer, reply to it; that is all we do with it. A database service provider in the United States stores it for us, and it is deleted once it is 12 months old. It is never used for marketing and is passed on to no one but those service providers.
You can ask for a message to be deleted sooner through the same form on our contact page; tell us the email address you used.
Following a link to a company we recommend
If an article links to a company we recommend, the link goes first to an address on this Site. Our server records the click (the page, where on the page the link sits and which of that company's pages it leads to) and sends you on to that company's website. The address we send you to carries a one-time click ID, your visitor ID, the name of this Site, the page you came from and a signature that shows the link came from this Site, so that company can connect your visit to its website with your visits here. If the rules described under Your choices apply to you, no visitor ID is passed. How we make money says which company this is and how we are connected to it.
Analytics provider
Our analytics processor is PostHog, Inc. Our server sends it the events described above along with the visitor ID, the device key and the approximate location, and PostHog stores and processes them for us in the United States. It never receives your IP address, your user agent, your name or your email address.
Our analytics account is shared with a company we have a business connection with, which uses it for its own website, so that company can see the events described above. How we make money names it.
Children
The Site is meant for adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your choices
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we honor it: we set no cookie and remove one set earlier, compute no device key, pass no visitor ID in links to a company we recommend, and record your page views only under an anonymous ID that changes every day and differs from site to site, so we do not follow you across visits.
- Visitors from Europe, the UK and Switzerland. If your connection appears to come from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or we cannot tell where it comes from, the same rules apply automatically.
- Your rights. Where you live may give you rights under laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act, including access, correction and deletion.
Sharing
We never sell personal information. Request data goes to our hosting provider and analytics events to our analytics provider, each acting on our behalf as described above, and we disclose information when the law requires it. A database service provider stores the messages sent through the contact form for us.
Write to us
Send privacy requests, including a request to delete a message you sent us, through the contact page.
